There are eight primary schools in the Conamara Láir language planning area. Here is a glimpse of the projects/schemes that are being developed by PTCL in partnership with the schools.

Is scéim nua í seo a d'fhorbair Pleanáil Teanga Chonamara Láir i gcomhar leis na múinteoirí ranga. Go bunúsach, is éard atá i gceist léi ná go bhfuil na daltaí níos sine ag feidhmiú mar mheantóir/chúntóir Gaeilge a chabhraíonn leis na páistí eile. Is í aidhm na scéime ná spreagadh a thabhairt do na meantóirí Gaeilge a bheith muiníneach agus iad ag labhairt na teanga agus bród agus meas a chothú don Ghaeilge. Ina theannta sin, ní hamháin go gcabhróidh siad leis an múinteoir, foghlaimeoidh siad trí thaithí, éireoidh siad neamhspleách agus forbróidh siad a scileanna ceannaireachta.

This is a new scheme that PTCL developed in collaboration with the class teachers. Essentially, what is involved with it is that older students act as an Irish language mentor/assistant that help younger children. The goal of the scheme is to give encouragement to the Irish language mentors to be confident in speaking the language and to develop pride and respect for the language. In addition to this, not only will they be helping the teacher, they will learn through experience, they will become independent and they will develop their leadership skills.

Cairde Pinn

Ghlac os cionn 50 bhunscoil agus 1,000 gasúr ar fud na Gaeltachta (seacht scoil ó cheantar Chonamara Láir) páirt sa togra CAIRDE PINN a d'eagair Oifigigh Pleanála Teanga na Gaeltachta, agus iad ag scríobh litreacha chuig a chéile. Insíonn an pictúir seo a sheol Scoil Mhuire Rosmuc chugainn an gliondar a bhíodh ar na gasúir agus iad ag fáil a litir óna gcairde pinn.

Over 500 primary schools and 1,000 students all over the Gaeltacht (seven schools from the Conamara Láir area) took part in the CAIRDE PINN program that the Oifigigh Pleanála Teanga na Gaeltachta organised, with those in the program writing letters to each other. This picture sent to us by Scoil Mhuire Rosmuc shows the excitement of the students getting their letter from their pen pals.

I gcomhar le hÚdarás Fuinnimh Inmharthana na hÉireann (SEAI), d'eagraigh Pleanáil Teanga Chonamara Láir ceardlanna fuinnimh a reáchtáil do bhunscoileanna an cheantair. Ba í Catherine Daly a bhí mar áisitheoir agus thug sí cuairt ar na hocht scoil ar fad atá sa limistéar ón 23ú go dtí an 27ú lá de Bhealtaine agus bhí Guzzler, sonóg muinteartha cheardlanna an SEAI, ina cuideachta.

Thug an tionscnamh SEAI seo ceardlanna fuinnimh agus

inbhuanaitheachta isteach i seomraí ranga scoileanna Ghaeltacht

Chonamara Láir ar bhealach taitneamhach agus idirghníomhach.

Bhí daltaí sóisearacha agus sinsir na mbunscoileanna lán-

pháirteach i ngníomhaíochtaí éagsúla a chabhraigh leo iniúchadh

a dhéanamh ar fhuinneamh agus téarmaí dá tháirgeadh agus dá úsáid a thuiscint. D'fhoghlaim siad faoi gháis cheaptha teasa

agus athrú aeráide. Rinne siad macnamh ar bhealaí gur féidir leo

féin fuinneamh a shábháil. Mar a deir Catherine féin,

'Ar scáth a chéile a mhairimid, mar sin is féidir linne cruth eile a

chur ar an scéal!'

Pleanáil Teanga Chonamara Láir, working with the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) organised energy workshops to be held for primary schools of the area. Catherine Daly was the facilitator and she visited eight schools in total in the district from the 23rd to the 27th of May and Guzzler, the SEAI workshop mascot was also present. This SEAI initiative provided energy and sustainability workshops in Conamara Láir classrooms in a fun and interactive way. Junior and Senior students of the primary schools were fully interactive in various activities that helped them to investigate energy and understand the tearms of its production and its use. They learned about greenhouse gases and climate change. They reflected on ways they themselves can save energy. As Catherine herself says, 'We live in each other's shadows, so we can put another perspective on the subject!'
